Tuy Loan Village Festival
Tuy Loan Village Festival
Time: January 9th and 10th (Lunar Calendar)
Location: Tuy Loan Ancient Village, southwest of Da Nang City
Nestled about 15 kilometers along Highway 14B from Da Nang, Tuy Loan is one of the oldest villages in Central Vietnam, with a history spanning over 500 years. Embraced by the winding Tuy Loan River and surrounded by lush mountains, the village exudes a rustic charm and poetic beauty that captivates every visitor.
Despite the passage of time, the village still preserves its traditional architecture, including ancient communal houses built from precious wood and covered with time-worn tiles. These structures face the river, symbolizing the harmony between people and nature — a hallmark of Vietnamese heritage.

Each year, the Tuy Loan Village Festival takes place on the 9th and 10th days of the first lunar month, bringing together villagers and visitors from near and far. The festival is held to honor the village’s founders and ancestors, who contributed to the expansion of Vietnamese territory during the reign of King Le Thanh Tong in the 15th century.

The celebration lasts two days and consists of two main parts:
-
The Ceremony:
The formal rituals include traditional processions, incense offerings, and musical performances, expressing gratitude and respect toward the village’s forefathers. -
The Festivities:
The joyful side of the event features vibrant folk games such as stick pushing, arm wrestling, and tug of war. One of the festival’s highlights is the rice paper making contest, a tribute to Tuy Loan’s famous craft that has been passed down through generations. Skilled women from the East and West hamlets compete, showcasing their talent and preserving the cultural legacy of the village.
Adding to the excitement is the traditional boat race on the Tuy Loan River, where local teams row passionately to the cheers of enthusiastic spectators. The winning team is believed to bring prosperity and good fortune to the village for the coming year.

In recent years, the festival has expanded to include more recreational activities such as “bánh tét” wrapping contests and slow cycling races, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere for all.
Attending the Tuy Loan Village Festival offers travelers a unique opportunity to experience authentic local culture, connect with the warm-hearted people of Da Nang’s countryside, and witness the enduring beauty of Vietnam’s traditional heritage.
